Wills, Trusts and Estate Planning for Families with Someone with a Disability
Hosted by: Alzheimers Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County - Kanata Support Group
Time: 10am to Noon
Location: Glen Carin United Church, 140 Abbeyhill Drive, Kanata
Donna Neff, a Certified Specialist in Estates and Trusts, will provide important estate planning information for those who have a relative with a disability. Donna will review in clear, understandable language the kinds of documents that should be prepared and signed and why they are so important. She will also explain the difference between acting under a Power of Attorney versus a Guardianship Order, and how to manage the assets and income of someone with a disability while protecting the person’s right to income and other supports from government sources such as the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP). She will also discuss Henson trusts and discretionary expense trusts which are allowed by ODSP Regulations and will explain how these types of trusts differ and when each is available and most useful.
